A Full Chimney Restoration in Portland — Built Right, Built to Last

Integrity Chimney completed a roofline-up chimney rebuild in Portland Hills, rebuilding deteriorated masonry from the roofline up and installing new flashing and a new crown for long-term protection. This project restored both the structural integrity and appearance of the chimney while helping protect the home from Portland’s wet climate. We’ll be returning later this summer for a full tuckpointing project to continue preserving the masonry the right way.

  • Date: April 2026
  • Location: Portland Hills, Oregon
  • Scope of Work:Roofline-up chimney rebuild, new flashing, crown rebuild
  • Coming Up:Full tuckpointing project scheduled for later this summer

About this Project

This Portland Hills chimney had significant deterioration above the roofline, with aging brickwork, failing mortar joints, and water intrusion concerns that made a full rebuild the right solution. Our crew carefully took the chimney down to the roofline and rebuilt it from there up, installing new brick, updated flashing, and a properly formed crown to restore both structural integrity and long-term protection. The transformation not only improved the look of the chimney but gave the homeowner peace of mind knowing it’s built to handle Portland’s wet climate for years to come. And we’re not done yet — we’ll be back later this summer for a full tuckpointing project to restore and strengthen the remaining masonry.

Roofline-Up Rebuild: Starting Fresh Where It Matters Most

When the upper portion of a chimney begins to fail, patchwork repairs often won’t solve the root problem. In this case, rebuilding from the roofline up was the right call. We removed the deteriorated masonry and rebuilt the chimney structure using new brick and mortar, creating a solid, durable system designed to last for decades. A proper rebuild protects the home, restores safety, and prevents small issues from turning into much bigger structural problems.

Chimney Flashing: Protecting the Roofline From Water Intrusion

Flashing is one of the most important parts of any chimney system, creating the seal where the roof and chimney meet. When flashing fails, water can work its way into the roof structure and cause hidden damage. We installed new flashing to ensure a tight, durable seal around the rebuilt chimney — a critical layer of protection, especially in Portland’s rainy climate.

Chimney Crown: Your First Line of Defense

We also rebuilt the chimney crown, the concrete top that sheds water away from the flue and masonry below. A properly sloped, well-built crown helps prevent water intrusion and freeze-thaw damage, protecting the entire chimney structure from the top down.

Coming This Summer: Full Tuckpointing

As part of this ongoing project, we’ll be returning later this summer for a full tuckpointing project to restore aging mortar joints throughout the remaining masonry. It’s the next step in preserving this chimney the right way — doing thorough, lasting work rather than temporary fixes.

Built right. Built to last. That’s the Integrity Chimney way.
