About this Project
In Portland, OR, our team tackled a comprehensive restoration of a tall exterior masonry chimney facing major structural and safety issues. The chimney had receding and missing mortar near the top, cracks in the crown, and outdated flashing that put the home at risk of water damage and further deterioration.
Using scaffolding for safe access, we carefully ground out over 200 square feet of deteriorated mortar joints, then refilled and struck each joint to create a clean, uniform, and durable finish. This process restored the chimney’s structural integrity while enhancing its appearance.
We sealed cracks in the chimney crown with a protective crown coat to prevent water intrusion and extend the chimney’s lifespan. Additionally, we upgraded the home’s fireplace by converting the existing gas log set into a high-efficiency Regency gas insert, significantly improving heating efficiency and visual appeal.
